This book describes the many islands of the Caribbean, from their varied landscapes and wildlife to the different people who inhabit the region and have contributed to its culture. Chapters examine the history and settlement of the region, and the languages, education, government and methods of transport of each island. Other sections explore the modern way of life from the bustling ports to the quiet countryside, the religion, festivals, food and culture. The region's wealth of agricultural and mineral resources is discussed, while the need for expansion is offset against the growing concern to conserve the wealth of wildlife that inhabits the surviving rainforests of the area.
